Creating Hard Edge in Acrylic

From the email bag Scott asks: I am wondering if you can point me in the right direction. I am interested in learning hard-edge geometric abstraction techniques similar to Frank Stella's or Sarah Morris style. Do you teach this or know of any artist/classes that do?

Thank you for your question, Scott. It's really nothing more than putting down tape and sealing the edge with Polymer Medium Gloss which dries clear. When that dries, paint over it with acrylic paint and let dry. Then pull the tape up and you have a nice crisp edge. That's about it technically. For circles and curves of course, it's a little trickier but it still involves taping, just using thinner more flexible tape.
