Using Acrylics on Plexi
Plexi makes a wonderful surface to paint on. You can use both sides and take advantage of translucent layers of paint, play with opacity and transparency and layer colors in a unique way. Be sure you varnish after you're finished to protect the surface from possible scratching. Golden makes a special purpose polymer GAC 200 that is useful for working on non-absorbent surfaces like plexi. Use it as a clear gesso that will increase adhesion of the acrylic to the plexi surface. Then away you go! Paint to your heart's content, knowing that the paint will adhere to the surface.

This is gorgeous! I can't wait to try it.
Could you give some hints about purchasing Plexi? How thick, what quality, approximate price, where?
Thanks!
I'm glad you like it. I like to purchase my plastic at Tap Plastics. I generally get 1/8" Plexi. Of course you can go thicker if you like.
Have Fun!

Thanks for all your wonderful technical advice. Always appreciated and enjoyable to read.
I have a potential commercial project this might be perfect for. How would you recommend mounting or framing Plexiglas to best highlight the effect for large work and small scale?
